Welcome to Maadi Brighton International School a vibrant and dynamic learning community dedicated to nurturing students’ intellectual curiosity and global citizenship in Cairo, Egypt.
The academic year at BIS typically runs from early September to late June and is divided into three semesters. Each semester concludes with a one- or two-week break. Throughout each semester, students engage in ongoing assessment, including regular quizzes and a comprehensive set of term examinations. Following each semester, a detailed progress report is issued to provide valuable feedback on student learning.
We believe that assessment can be used to improve our educational program by offering constructive feedback for teachers, students, parents, and administrators. We do not rely on testing as the only method of assessment; instead, we utilize a variety of assessment tools and observational techniques to document students’ progress in relation to grade-appropriate expectations throughout the academic year. Our students are evaluated on their procedural and conceptual understanding of each standard through many opportunities for group and individual work, as well as through observations, performances, presentations, and projects where their learning is demonstrated.
We develop a range of assessment strategies to monitor student progress, which inform future planning and drive best practices for our school community. At the end of each semester, we issue a progress report that provides detailed information about students’ achievements, including personalized comments and grades for all subjects taken. This report allows students to identify their strengths and recognize areas in need of improvement.
